During the second block of the first year, me and my team had to respect the same design brief, but create a 2D game. We had the opportunity to transform "For Hire" into a digital experience. This meant that the target audience was still the new first year CMGT students.
Still, we decided to only keep the setting and after adapting it and coming up with a story and gameplay, the idea of "Star Stranded", a 2D narrative experience was born. As the player finds themselves on a stranded ship, they have to make their way back home, dealing with challenges and interacting with different cultures.
As the project entered production, my responsibilities included:
- leading the team
- programming the four minigames that the gameplay is based on
- creating 2D assets for the characters, ship, UI, as well as backgrounds for the menus and minigames
The software I used during this project includes:
- GameMaker 2
- Aseprite
- Adobe Photoshop
